Doxrid is prescribed for various bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, acne, gonorrhea, chlamydia, periodontitis (gum disease), and more.
 
Doxrid is classified as a tetracycline antibiotic. It functions by inhibiting bacterial growth, which allows the immune system to eliminate the bacteria.
 
Doxrid is utilized for: treating infections caused by specific bacteria; in combination with other medications for certain amoeba infections; and preventing or slowing down the development of anthrax after exposure.
 
Contraindications and precautions include: allergy to any component of Doxrid or another tetracycline; use of acitretin, hormonal contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills), or penicillins (e.g., amoxicillin); pregnancy; breastfeeding; liver or kidney disease; and for children under 8 years of age.
 
Possible side effects include: decreased appetite; nausea; increased sensitivity to sunlight; and vomiting.
 
The effectiveness of Doxrid may be diminished by barbiturates, carbamazepine, hydantoins, or penicillins; Acitretin or isotretinoin could cause side effects like heightened intracranial pressure (leading to severe headaches and vision problems); combining Doxrid with anticoagulants, methotrexate, or methoxyflurane may amplify the effects and side effects of these drugs; and Doxrid might reduce the effectiveness of hormonal contraceptives (e.g., birth control pills).
